What Causes Purple Colored Bump Under Breast?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Oct 2014
Question: Hello,

I have a bump under my breast that is of color purple.
It does have some clear pus mixed with blood.
I can always feel the bump, it doesn't hurt, the bump is hard and its the size of the top of my index.
I cannot move it around.
It doesnt look like a pimple that has a round white area.
It is more like a dot.
Also when i drain it i feel like there is a ligament.
Kind of looks like a hair but when i use tweezers and pull it is attached.
Should i be worried or is it just a pimple?

Brief Answer:
Biopsy with Culture/sensitivity is required

Detailed Answer:
Hi Madam,
I have carefully read your query and understand your concern.

This bump could be some organised hematoma arising out of any unnoticed trauma.

I most cases it contains blood and pus when infected.

The basic management would be to get a culture and sensitivity of the secretions along with a biopsy from the edge of the bump to rule out any malignant process as a part of the routine check up for any swelling arsing from the breast tissue.

Meanwhile empirical antibiotics can be started in the form of cefixime or amoxylin until culture results are awaited.

Negative findings n biopsy will have no significance and would end the investigative protocol.

I hope this info is helpful to you,
Thank you
