What Causes Purple Discolouration On Cervix?
Question: The doctor noted a purple area on my cervix yesterday when doing my colposcopy. What does this mean?
Brief Answer:
visual inspection needed for exact diagnosis
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic
I would like to know why were you advised colposcopy (the symptoms if at all you had like any abnormal bleeding or discharge) and the pap smear report. Was there some staining done with vinegar / Iodine?
This altered colored area on cervix can be a precancerous lesion or just a vascular malformation.
The exact nature can only be mentioned by the doctor who did colposcopy or on biopsy report if was taken at the time of inspection of the lesion.

Dr Manisha

I needed a colposcopy because my pap smear came back with atypical squamous cells could not rule out high grade lesion. I had some abnormal bleeding and they found a fibroid tumor last week as well. I also was noted to have Nabolian cysts on my cervix as well. They did stain with the vinegar. I am awaiting results currently. The MD felt the biopsy may show CINIII which I have been noted to be at before.
Have you seen my response?
Have you seen my response?
Brief Answer:
Wait for biopsy report
Detailed Answer:
I have read the whole response and according to that plus colposcopy findings it is quite likely that you may have a high grade lesion on histopathological analysis of the biopsy specimen.
Your age also coincites with the peak age of cancerous growth of cervical region.
Right now just wait for the biopsy report and then we can discuss the further management which will depend on the stage and grade of tumor cells.
In case you have completed your family then it will be best to get a hysterectomy in case there is some major abnormality in the biopsy report.
Wish you luck.

So the purple area could be a high grade lesion or are you referring to MD stating CINIII?
Brief Answer:
Both are synonymous
Detailed Answer:
High grade lesion includes CIN III and carcinoma in situ.
Both these have almost the same management and hence grouped together but only difference is that CIN III can still be managed conservatively in women desirous of preserving their uterus.
So just wait for the biopsy report and we can decide further best treatment.
