Brief Answer:
"Lichenoid eruption" : a simple benign condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the purplish post appeared over night on your penile area.

Let me first and foremost reassure you that the condition is neither related to carcinoma and nor to warts also.

Carcinoma never appears overnight and warts do not have this kind of appearance.

You must be wondering what the problem is!!! This condition most likely is a "Lichenoid eruption" which is commonly found at this site as well as at any other site of body. It is not at all anything serious and is a simple phenomenon of wear and tear of skin which actually becomes slightly raised due to touching or scratching. This begins as very small bumps and then can become flatly enlarged and gives purplish hue.

You can apply simple petroleum jelly over the rough areas. If you feel any itching over the area then can take antihistamines under medial guidance.

The eruption is quite common to find at this are so remain tension free for any kind of future issues.

I hope you must be more than relaxed to know all these simple medical facts.

I will be glad to guide you any further for your any sort of queries.

Thanks for the informative reply Dr. Kanodia. I have another question. I noticed a few pimple-like growths - 3 to be exact, one on the base of my penis, the other two at the top of the pubic region. They've been there about three weeks. One is going away while the others persist. I noticed what appears to be a depression in the one at the top of the pubic region and am worried this may be herpes. Would appreciate your advice. P.S. I could only attach one photo to this query, but if there is another way to send more photos I have 5 others. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
The present bumps are of "Molluscum contagiousum"

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for your further query.

After thoroughly analyzing the pictures I can get that the present bumps are "Molluscum contagiousum"

To tell you simply about the condition: It is a type of viral infection caused by molluscum contagiosum virus. It appears as a simple whitish bead and when fully formed mimics a pearl like whitish bump with central indentation in it.

It is totally asymptomatic condition and never cause any discomfort except for itching some times rarely. It is commonly seen after an unprotected or protected sexual intercourse or sometime without this thing also due to skin to skin contact.

Do let me know if you have had any recent history of unprotected intercourse.

Let me reassure you that this one of the simplest viral condition and can be treated very easily. It requires simple cauterization by machine or chemical. You can meet a dermatologist and get it treated completely.

Thanks for your answer Dr. Kamodia. I see all the photos were attached, so you have a pretty good idea of what the bumps look like. My questions are - if left untreated, will the infection clear itself? And if I must treat it proactively, are there other treatment options such as ointments or anti-viral medication?
I did have unprotected sex around the time these bumps presented...how long after contact do symptoms present usually?

Brief Answer:
Get it treated at the earliest.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for your further follow up.

In Molluscum contagiosum I always suggest my patients to get treated at the earliest. Though it is one of the simplest viral infection and never cause any problem. It can get cleared by itself also by good immunity of your body. But in my view an infection is always better to be treated proactively as existing lesions are source of new lesion formation.

Though in some cases I suggest "Imiquimod cream" which can help in cessation of viral activity and early resolution. But in most of the cases I prefer to cauterize the bumps with simple radio-frequency or extraction.

So I also suggest that as you have 3 lesions only so get treated at the earliest.

It is quite common to find thee after unprotected or even protected intercourse because of skin to skin contact. These can erupt anytime form 1 week to 4 weeks of contracting the infection and in some cases bit later also.

I hope these informations will help you. I will be glad to guide you any further.
