What Causes Radiating Pain In Lower Left Abdomen And Back With Frequent Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Question: Good Evening, I am now retired from working for a medical charity- but have for the past week noticed pain in my left lower region radiating up my back- with frequent loosed stools & a lot of gas. I have spoken to my G.P. & he dosent seem worried- he thinks I might have pulled a muscle. How ever in 2008 I had parathyroidism & had 2 tumours removed from my parathyroid glands- after complaining for 4 years of feeling unwell. Think I should speak to my GP tomorrow? Please advise?
Many thanks

Brief Answer:
I do believe your symptoms are related to some gastric condition, pls read

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I do believe you could be experiencing some gastric symptoms caused by some underlying condition (more likely to be food poisoning or indigestion if the symptoms appeared acutely/suddenly).

The discomfort or pain you are experiencing is quite typical for most gastric conditions, including the pain radiating to your upper back region. So please do speak to your doctor about it. And also try and recall what you had to drink and/or eat about 2-6 hours prior to the appearance of your symptoms.

Here are a few of my suggestions to help get you a little more comfortable in the meantime:

+Avoid spicy food
+Try to get your hands on probiotics which are easily available in most grocery stores in the form of a drink, or a medical store in the form of a drink or XXXXXXX or you could also consume natural probiotics. This will help with digestion and prevent diarrhoea/loose stools
+Avoid fatty food
+Avoid fried food
+Avoid oily food
+Avoid carbonated drinks
+Take an antacid like ranitidine or omeprazole about 15 minutes before each meal
+Try and get your hands on some ORS (oral rehydration solution) available in the form of powder (in sachet) or liquid drink which will prevent dehydration due to excess fluid loss

I hope you find my response helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
