What Causes Rapid Heart Rate And Oxygen Loss While Treating COPD?

Question: I am on oxygen 7 years now due to copd from allergens. (burning firewood gasses put me in hospital for 8 days)... using Spiriva, albuterol and 24/7 oxygen. Triggers are smelling cigarettes, smoke of ANY KIND, lung capacity tested annually at hospital 45-50%; past smoker but lungs were clear - hard to believe but lucked out in that area). Living with TRIGGERS such as any smoke, perfumes, fragrances, body sprays, dust causes a rapid heart rate until I drink water, hit an inhaler and increase oxygen to 3 from 2 in emergency situations. PEOPLE keep telling me all this is due to being a past smoker. This is due to ALLERGENS and total lung capacity loss from firewood gasses 7 years ago. Why are people so inconsiderate with the triggers that "take me down".???????
Brief Answer:
Combination of both is responsible for your situation.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, combination of both is responsible for your symptoms.
You might be having asthma COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS).
Since you smoked in the past, we cannot ignore this as a cause of COPD. However you also have allergies. This causes additive effect in COPD. So combination of both is responsible for your disease.
The exacerbation are mostly due to allergen triggers. Therefore allergy is also responsible for your disease.
Hope I have addressed your query. I will be happy to help you further.
Thanks.
