What Causes Rash On Arms And Legs Inspite Of Being On Losartan For Many Years?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: I have been taking Losartan for years. 4 weeks ago I started having a rash on my trunk, arms, and legs which I had to scratch until it bled. I stopped the Losartan at once, and was told that it would take 30 days to go away if it was due to the Losartan. Symptomatic treatment only helps a little. Could this still be an allergy to Losartan? I am also taking Felodipine and Amiodarone so I would like to know when I can be sure it is not due to the Losartan, and stop the most likely of the other drugs. Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Not due to drugs you are taking.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thanks for your question on HCM.

In my opinion, your skin rash is not due to drug's side effect.
Since you are taking losartan for years, it is unlikely to develop rash due to losartan after years of use.
Amiodarone can cause skin lesions (rashes). But the incidence is very low. It is mostly due to skin hypersensitivity to sun.
So I don't think your skin lesions are due to side effect of the drugs (losartan, amiodarone and felodipine) you are taking.
It is something else. May be viral infection or contact allergy etc.
So I will advice you to consult dermatologist and get done clinical examination of your skin lesion.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
