What Causes Rash On Palm After Omnicef Intake For Sore Throat?
Question: Hi, My son has a severe sore throat and his doctor said it is most likely strep and/or mono. His sister came home from college about a month ago with mono. She is back at school and fine now. My son tested negative for both strep and mono in the office. The doctor did say it might be too early so if his condition does not improve, I am to bring him back tomorrow for another mono test. I my daughter did not break out with a rash on her hands. He was prescribed Omicef two days ago. It has not relieved his sore throat and now he has a rash on the palm of his hands. I just want to know if this is sign for strep or is it an allergic reaction to the Omnicef?
Brief Answer:
Can have many reasons
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
The rash on the palm can be due to a reaction to Omnicef (cefdinir).
But there are many many reasons to have similar rash on palms like viral or bacterial infections too. So it will be difficult to pin-point.
The first precaution is to stop the present antibiotic, consult your Doctor for further management.
Is this for the first time has he been taking Omnicef or any medicines of Cephalosporin group like Cefazolin/ Cephalothin/ Cephapirin/ Cephalexin/ Cefadroxil/ Cephradine ?
The adage in medical practice is = anything under the sun including the sun can cause allergic reaction.
