Question: My granddaughter who is almost 22 months has a rash around her lips especially on her chin and some on her right cheek. Has raised bumps but no pustules. No fever, acts tired and somewhat fussy. Possibly contact dermatitis? Has not eaten anything new.

Brief Answer:
Yes, contact dermatitis or Primary irritant dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for the description and photograph.

This is a typical presentation of primary irritant dermatitis with sudden onset rash, without fever and may be slight itchy.

The child looks happy though. You should check for detergents, soaps, jewelry or new attire of the close relatives who handle the child. Sometimes insect crawls also present this way.

An over the counter hydrocortisone cream can be cautiously tried on the rash. A regular pediatrician should be able to judge and treat well after detailed examination.
