What Causes Raspy Voice, Cough And Chest Pain?
Suggestive of Respiratory tract infection
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for your query.
The symptoms are suggestive of Respiratory tract infection, most probably with a bacterial etiology. Presence of yellow sputum, fever and chest pain is attributed to that.
Panadol (pharmacologically Paracetamol) being an analgesic anti-inflammatory preparation, can only provide temporary relief from pain and fever.
However, until the causative agent is treated, the symptoms will keep recurring.
Regarding the symptoms as mentioned in your post, kindly let us know about the following:
1. Any diurnal variation? i.e. symptoms are more during any particular time of the day?
2. Any tests/ laboratory investigations carried out? If yes, then please attach the concerned reports along with your post.
3. Any past history or family history of Asthma, Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Hypertension, Diabetes, Thyroid disorder, etc?
4. History of exposure to any chemical or smoke at home or working place?
5. Habit of smoking or alcohol consumption?
6. History of recent or prolonged intake of any medication (other than Panadol)?
7. Any other associated symptoms, like sore throat, breathlessness, loss of weight and appetite, etc.?
A knowledge of the above mentioned facts will be helpful to make a better diagnosis and formulate an appropriate management plan.
Till then, symptomatic relief can be obtained with:
1. Steam inhalation.
2. Cough expectorant syrup.
3. Antihistamine preparations like Cetrizine.
4. Continue the Panadol.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
Pneumonia can be one of the differential diagnoses
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for your follow up query.
Pneumonia can be one of the differential diagnoses for your symptoms.
But it cannot be confirmed without a complete history and clinical examination of the Respiratory system.
So, kindly visit your Physician/ Pulmonologist and get a proper examination done.
Certain investigations like complete blood count, Pulmonary Function Test and X ray of chest will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.
Since you are having the symptoms for the past 02 weeks, any further delay in seeking medical attention is not advisable.
Till then, temporary relief can be obtained with the measures mentioned in my previous answer.
If the diagnosis of Pneumonia gets confirmed, then Panadol alone will not be enough for the management.
Under such circumstances, you will need a course of antibiotics like Azithromycin/ Amoxicillin+Clavulanic acid , OR based on culture and sensitivity reports.
There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Take care.
