What Causes Rectal Bleeding?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Sep 2016
Question: I have suffered from prostatitis in the past and my hemmorhoids come and go after I use protopic ointment. I work out 5 days a week and do a lot of core work which requires abdomen and stomach use. For the past 4 months I go to the bathroom a lot quicker after certain meals. I sometimes bleed from my anus but usually during periods when my hemmorhoids act up. I don't have severe pain in my abdomen but sometimes it feels uncomfortable especially if I eat the wrong food. I have had more gas lately. I urinate more frequently at night sometimes. My doctor scheduled a colonoscopy as part of my regular screening since I recently turned 50. I looked up colon cancer and just got a little scared because I do have some symptoms even though they can be explained. I just wanted to know how scared I should be.

Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy will help you to allay your anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
The bleeding per anus that you get may be due to Hemorrhoids and not due to cancer of colon which is always manifested by severe symptoms like excessive bleeding with severe cramps in abdomen and diarrhea or constipation .

The colonoscopy is the best confirmative test to rule out cancer of the colon .

As regards your urinary symptoms They are mostly due to Enlarged Prostate and needs to consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic test done to confirm the diagnosis .
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA

You may start taking Tomsulosin once daily and Oxybutinine twice daily .This will help to reduce urinary symptoms .
.
Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
