What Causes Recurrent Dry Cough And Chest Tightness When Diagnosed With Hiatal Hernia?
Question: hello
I have a question about my dry cough;
I have a GERD condition, have had it for years and the condition is under control with omperazole and lifestyle changes. I don't feel burning in throat or anything and I never had problems with dry cough or loss of vocal before.
I have been diagnosed with a small/medium hiatal hernia; which don't need surgery, -" the doctor said "
But 8 days ago I started to get dry chough, it comes and goes and sometimes it's really bad, and it totally dissapeares when I go to sleep.
I excercise much sport and never had problem with breathing or anything and the chough also seem to go away while excercising; and comes again when I rest or silently work.
in this 8 days I have notice a little tightness in the chest while i have this chough reflex ( not pain ), and ofcourse I only think about astma and that makes me scared. But the tightness don't give me shortness of breath or any problem what so ever, it's just a feeling. Can this be silent anxiety; I have history of anxity.
tell me this:
do I have anything to worry about, or is there anything I can do ?

Brief Answer:
Hi need not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM
Thank you for your query
I understand your concern
Possibly you had viral bronchitis causing cough and excess coughing could cause chest tightness at times.
Yes sometimes it could be aggravated by anxiety, unlikely to be asthma or cardiac problem.
But if it is severe or worsening worthwhile getting an chest X-ray and ECG done.
Can try some steam inhalation, avoid allergens if possible, do not sleep two hours after meals, raise head end of bed if possible by four inches at night when you sleep.
All this will help you in long term.
Best wishes
Wish you a speedy recovery
Happy to help

okey, so it is possiable to have had viral bronchitis without having fever.
and what does allergens include and what is the negative effect of these products ?
all in all, you don't think I need to worry at all ?

Yes viral bronchitis can occur without fever.
Allergens include pollens, dust, animal dander etc.
Usually they are not major problems.
All in all not to worry.
