What Causes Recurrent Migraines And Stiffness In A Child?

default
Posted on Sat, 14 Mar 2015
Question: My 12 year old son has always been very stiff, not flexible. He has a very difficult time running and moving like other children his age. He does suffer from migraines from time to time, and he has very poor penmanship with his writing abilities. He is very smart and but has a difficult time with his hand motor skills. He has one shoulder that is always higher than the other. He wants to play sports but has very little range of motion with his arms. I was told by someone that he has unusually long arms for his height, and they mentioned someone that they knew had a condition related to long arms. Could they all be related issues?

Brief Answer:
yes could be marfans

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Unusually long arms for his height could indicate many possibilities and syndromes.
The commonest ones could be marfans or gigantism
It is better to consult a genetic expert to examine him and do the genetic test to confirm the presence or absence of syndromes.
Note: A normal phenotype can also have long arms. Doesn't necessarily mean he has a problem.
Wishing your child good health.

Dr Arun
