What Causes Recurrent Painful Swelling In The Groin Area After Hernia Surgery?
Question: Hello doctor,
I was curious about this sudden groin/leg pain that came on in the last 24 hours; it’s a dull ache that goes from the top of the right pelvis to somewhat down my thigh, but I’ve also noticed it in my groin/testicular area. It came on after no serious strain (not that I can remember atleast) - see attached image to shower general area.
A critical piece to know is that I had an lingual hernia come about around a year and a half ago, to which I had mesh surgery. Haven’t really had any discomfort since until know. Just wondering if this is normal to spurt up here and there or if I have a recurring hernia?

Brief Answer:
Do you have any swelling?
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query. I have reviewed the information and attached image fully.
I'd like to know if you have any recurrent swelling. If there is none, it is unlikely that there is a recurrent hernia here.
However, transient pain after surgery is often not uncommon. Tylenol often helps with discomfort and that is all. Unless it becomes severe or persists longer, there is really no reason to get too worried about this.
Endeavor to take 1000mg of Tylenol thrice daily for 2days to help with this.
I hope this helps. Let me know how this progresses.
I wish you well.
Kind regards

I dont believe so (to my untrained eye/touch). I dont feel any pressure or buldging inside either, just the ache that radiates along the way described. I will say that ive had slight diarrhea today as well, but no nausea or upset stomach at all though. Mentioning it because i dont know if they are possibly related .
Brief Answer:
Continue Tylenol. Observe only as of now!
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
I'd say you should not bother about any recurrence.
With no swelling, chances of a hernia are almost inexistent. I am sure you would get relief from Tylenol and this is nothing more than a transient symptom which isn’t uncommon following hernia repair.
I wish you well. Keep me posted.
Kind regards
