What Causes Recurrent Strep Infection?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jun 2016
Question: My girlfriend has been diagnosed with strep twice now in three weeks she finished all of the medicine the doctor gave her and now she has been diagnosed with it again. My question is:
1. Is this normal?
2. What kind of affects can this have on her?
3. Is this a cause of her being a cancer survivor?

I would really appreciate your help so I can understand so I can help and support her.

Regards,

Brief Answer:
Possibly; 2 effects; most probably sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Here are my views sir:

1. Her being a cancer survivor doesn't necessarily mean she is in an immunocompromised state, but it is certainly possible. If this is the case, then such recurrent infections can take place, and would be considered normal unfortunately

2. The only affects it can have are:

+Repeated usage of antibiotics can result in development of resistance to many antibiotic strains
+Repeated use of antibiotics can also result in an imbalance resulting in increased susceptibility to yeast/fungal infections

3. If her immunity is compromised due to the cancer, medications, chemo or radiotherapy; then yes, this would be the most likely cause sir

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

With me having my tonsils out at a young age is there a possibility of me getting strep. And what can I do to help her feel and rest better?

Brief Answer:
Allow her to rest, voice rest, bland warm liquid or semi-solid diet

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

The chances of you getting strep are much much lesser.

Along with the medications she is on, allow her to rest well enough, voice rest, give her warm fluids to drink through the day, a liquid or semi-solid bland diet and keep her warm.

Best wishes.
