default
Posted on Mon, 12 Dec 2016
Question: Hello,
For the last week or so, I've been experiencing some tingling in my lips. It comes and goes. Not actually numb, just feels weird. Otherwise, healthy and fine (normal blood, heart...).

Brief Answer:
herpes? anxiety?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

tingling in the lips is not a common symptom, particularly if it's the only symptom a patient has. As an isolated symptom, I can think of herpes simplex virus infections, which usually starts with minor nerve symptoms (tingling, sensitive skin, perhaps pain) and proceeds with visible painful lesions.

Another potential cause is low blood pressure which may cause a weird sensation in the lips (and usually also other parts of the body, like the extremities). Most patients focus on the lips though.

If no other symptoms occur and no reasonable diagnosis can be revealed then it can be a symptom of anxiety, particularly if you have a history of such symptoms.

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
