What Causes Recurrent Toe Nail Pain?

Question: Hi,
(first sorry for my English... I used Google translate)
Two years ago I had a chirurugie for ingrown toenail. There is about a month ago the pain come back. Two days ago I went back to the specialist who performed the chirurgie. He pulled a strap and polished the nail. But the problem is that he polished it so much that he went to the skin. The nail has become so thin and brittle that pieces broked away exposing more bare skin ... In addition to being extremely painful it is now all scratched and it clings in parts ... I can't waer shoes and boots, even a simple sulow or the rustle of a sheet is unbearable. I can't tell you how much I am disappointed and angry ...
Here are my questions:
How it takes time for the big toenail to grow back?
Is it dangerous to have bare skin as well? Risk of infection and précosion to take?
Recommendations to reduce the pain?
Thank you
