What Causes Recurring Fever In A 2 Year Old?
Question: My son, who is 2 years 0 Months old and weights 13.2 kg. He gets fever frequently. In last two months he got fever 3 times and it lasts for around a week. He recovers without any medicines. From yesterday, again he has fever which is 4th time in last two months.
He remain active during fever and pass urine normally. He avoid solid food and use milk most of the time during fever.
For every cycle we have noticed, first day fever is high. And only for first day due to high fever (>100F), we gave megadol and then fever remains <100. Everything became normal after 5-6th day.
Please suggest, Is it normal or he needs to go for any medical investigation?

Brief Answer:
viral fever
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
It looks like a case of viral fever.
As the fever remains high on day 1 and it settles thereafter without any medicine like antibiotics.
But if it is getting recurrentely then you need to see a doctor and get urine, blood (test like cbc, crp, esr, widal, ps for mp) tested.
Also there is need to see the patient clinically to rule out any organomegaly.
Hope i helped you.

The reports are near normal.
Haemoglobin levels are little bit on lower side and lymphocytes are on higher side.
Looking at this report we can say that it is viral fever.
PS for mp , widal test are not attached here.
You can give syp. Tonoferon-pediatric for low hb level.Talk to the pediatrician about the same.
Hope i helped you.

As per his weight of 13.2kg, you can give him syp. S-mucolite 5ml 3 times a day.
It is a bronchodilator. Please get it prescribed by his doctor.
If cough is with fever and do not respond to above medicine in 3 to 4 days then you may need antibiotics for which you will have to see a doctor.
