Question: hi there, for some time on and off I have a feeling where I think my heart misses a beat, it seems to originate in my tummy and goes to my windpipe and it triggers a cough. I have had this for a few years on and off but its be more prelavent of late. I am overweight and a smoker slight high bp and cholesterol , I have spoken to my doctor and he says its just anxiety. can you advise me please , with kind regaurds

I read your query very carefully and understood your concern.

What you are experiencing is more likely to be related to heart arrhythmias (extra cardiac beats) than to anxiety. Although i have to admit that anxiety may worsen the arrhythmias.

If you were my patient I would have recommended the following examinations:
- ECG
- Cardiac Echo
- Holter monitoring
This will help to find out what sort of arrhythmia you have.

thank you for your comforting medical opinion. I have had these on and off for many years . but iv had a massive amount of stress the last two week, and maybe there is some connection . kind reguards
