What Causes Recurring Pain In Chest?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Feb 2015
Question: I have recurring mild pain in the upper left part of the chest, sometimes radiates to left arm; this pain can be reproduced at a few pressure points. I also experience a sensation that I originally thought were heart palpitations, but I'm not so sure now. It is almost like a burping / excess gas or something is contracting in the upper respiratory area for a split second. I did have several heart tests: EKG (several), stress, ultrasound (twice); went to a cardiologist. All tests came back negative.

Brief Answer:
Could be gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Ho
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.
I think I would be able to help you.

The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of cardiac condition. However, in view of the fact that the cardiac specialists have had a look at you, I think I would suggest that you have gastritis.

This can sometimes present with the same problems as a cardiac condition.

I would suggest trying proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole 40 mg twice daily for 7 days.
If it helps, a diagnosis of gastritis may be made quite safely. And then you can continue the same medicines till the problem continues.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.

Thanks....I will try this; apart from the fact I saw the cardiologist and the tests came back negative, what are they ways to distinguish whether the issue is cardio or something else ??

Brief Answer:
CAG can be used

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the response.

The best way to rule out a cardiac condition for sure is to get a coronary angiography (CAG). In this we can see the status of the heart directly.

However, I would suggest that you avoid the test. It's an invasive procedure and with normal reports to basic tests, I think you should avoid it.

Clinically it is difficult to differentiate between the two issues.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
