What Causes Red Bumps On Pubic Region After Having Waxing?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Jul 2014
Question: Hello!! So I decided to take it upon myself and home wax my bikini region. Shortly after waxing I had intercourse, which caused friction and sweat etc and I developed red bumps along my bikini line and pubic region. They do not itch, they are not painful. Some feel as tho there is a little ball under the skin. I am guessing it's a folliculitis from irritation. I have done warm compresses, hydrocortisone cream, neosporin witch XXXXXXX .. It starts to look better then I work a few days and the irritation from wearing underwear makes the area red all over again. I waxed about 10 days ago.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of pseudofolliculitis

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking us on healthcaremagic

I would keep a possibility of pseudofolliculitis barbae, though I would have been greatly helped if you could have uploaded an Image of the affected area

Pubic area is prone to develop pseudofolliculitis. They happen specially because pubic hair are coarse and curly. So when these hairs grow they curl back onto itself and can reenter skin thus causing bumps.

The red rash is definitely part of the problem you are facing. I would say that it is due to combination of dry skin, some amount of irritant/allergic reaction to Neosporin and rubbing against the underwear.. worsened by pseudofolliculitis barbae.

The best way to approach is to start on an empirical oral antibiotic for a week OR 10 days (My choice of oral antibiotic would have been Amoxycillin 500 mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg, thrice daily, for a week OR Cephalexin 500ng thrice daily OR Cefadroxil 500mg twice daily, for a week).

Rather than Neosporin, an OTC antibacterial cream e.g 2% mupirocin cream can be applied twice daily.
