What Causes Red Rashes On The Face During 17th Week Of Pregnancy?
Question: Am 17 weeks and 4 days pregnant as on 7th July 17. On 1st July, I had a few red rashes appeared on my face and was feeling a little sick. Next day, it got spread to my hand and upper part of the body along with a minor fever. Monday morning (3rd Jul) , I went to my gynecologist and she referred me to a physician. As per the physician, I went for the measles and Rubella blood test and the result was positive for Rubella. The lab result was Rubella-IgM-Grayzone- 1.23 index
The rashes got faded next day (4th Jul) and it completely vanished on 5th Jul. The fever and the body pain also went away with the rashes. However, I had minor joint pains until 6th Jul.
What does the Rubella values in the test results indicate ?, will it cause any birth defects to baby? ,my gynecologist told it’s on the border line and should not worry about it and asked me to repeat the test, which I’ve done it today.

Brief Answer:
Repeat levels should be done
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
I have reviewed the report.
It shows borderline results for Rubella.
In this scenario, Rubella can or cannot be there. Chances of Rubella are less as the levels are low.
In this situation, the chances of congenital infection in the fetus are extremely low.
A repeat level of Rubella IgM will clarify the diagnosis.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Brief Answer:
Active Rubella infection, termination advised
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have reviewed the report.
It is suggestive of active Rubella infection.
In this scenario, termination of pregnancy is advised as there are high chances of congenital anomalies in the fetus like cataract, hearing impairment, heart defects etc.
