What Causes Red Sore About 4 Inches From Waist Line?
Question: on my left side of my abdomen, I have a red sore about 4 inches from my belt line, half way between my hip and penis area. the sore is +/- 3/4 inch in diameter with mild pain. I am in good condition for 62,i can bench press my weight, have good cardio condition, but I am +/-10-15 lbs overweight at 5-8...170.i think I might have a minor hernia. my question is could this be something else? what is the usual abatement for this condition?does it cure itself? thankyou XXXX

Hernia has classical symptoms and signs:
Hernia is expansile on coughing, meaning there is an impulse on coughing or straining.
Reducible on its own or on manipulation, goes back.
This character is lost only if it is obstructed, incarcerated or strangulated but becomes painful and gives other symptoms of pain, redness, tenderness, bloating, nausea and so on depending upon the stage.
If this was/is not a hernia, it can be lipoma, a cyst from the skin, lymph node of the inguinal area and so on.
This can be diagnosed by :
Clinical evaluation, examination preferably by a General Surgeon, ultrasonography and whichever further investigations done as needed like FNAC (if lymph node or lipoma is suspected on ultrasonography).
The treatment will obviously be dependent upon the final diagnosis.
