What Causes Red Sore Tongue?
Question: My tongue has been sore for a month and red. My gastro doctor told me it was B deficiency, so my family doctor gave me b12 shots. Still sore, red, and (doctor says) flat. My rheumatologist says I am not taking enough folic acid. I will take whatever. Which is it? B12 B9 or something horrible like cancer.

I understand your concern. Megaloblastic anemia causes red and sore tongue. Both your gastroenterologist and rheumatologist are right in this matter.
Causes of megaloblastic anemia can be due to deficiency of vitamin B12 and B9.It is better to start taking capsules containing both until confirmed otherwise. There is no harm in taking these pills together. This is not cancer, please do not worry about it.
Alongwith the medication, please take healthy food rich in vitamin B12 and B9.
Hope this helps.Feel free to ask more.
