Petechiae or purpura

Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
It seems your wife is having Petechiae which are tiny red spots from blood capillary leakage, occurring because of a variety of reasons. Mostly, they develop on the legs, but they can also appear on other parts of the body. They are painless, do not itch and occur due to blood leaks in the skin vessels.
These red spot called Petechiae or purpura can be due to idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP),common in females.
Alternatively these red spots may be palpable purpura commonly due to cutaneous small-vessel vasculitis, also known as leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV).
Let her undergo a complete blood count and subsequently testing for HIV infection and hepatitis C (and other infections if indicated); serologic testing for SLE.

Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
I have seen the picture. It looks like palpable purpura only. Please show her to a dermatologist. She will require skin biopsy and serological test like ANA,Ant-ds DNA apart from complete blood count.

Hi,

Except low platelet count your routine blood count and urinalysis does not show much.
You can continue whatever have been prescribed but at the same time complete the investigations as suggested to reach a conclusion.
