What Causes Red Spots On Legs, Knee And Ankles?
Question: I have red spots covering the front of my legs from the knee down to my ankles. Have been to my regular MD. He doesn't seem to think much about them because I am not sick, they do not ooze, they do not itch. I am a daily wine drinker, should I get liver enzymes drawn? Should I consult my GI doc. should I just wait it out to see if it changes. It's been almost 2 weeks
Brief Answer:
Further tests are advised...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
First, I need to have a photo of the red spots you have for final conclusions.
Next, from what you are describing, it might be related to liver problems causing low prothrombine levels. That's why I highly recommend to run liver function test:
- transaminases (ALT, AST)
- GGT
- AP
and hepatitis tests:
- anti HCV
- HbsAg
together with
- complete blood count
- prothrombin level
- abdominal ultrasound
for further evaluations. Meanwhile, I highly recommend to stop drinking wine or other alcoholic drinks.
Hope it helped!
