What Causes Red Welts On Face Of Toddler?
Question: My toddler (23 months) has red welts on his face after camping. We took him to the pediatrician, and they told us it was bug bites. We all had bites, so we figured they were right. This was last week. Yesterday, he woke up with red welts around his hairline and one on his neck. They bother him, and I am confused what it could be.
Brief Answer:
Could be due to some allergic reaction.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through the details provided. I would need to ask you specifically if the rashes look same as the previous bug bites. It would be helpful if you could upload an image of these 'ref welts'. You can do so using the facility on the upper right of this page. There is a possibility of these rashes being due to some allergic reaction. You can try giving him some antiallergic like cetirizine syrup one a day for a few days and see if that makes a difference.
I will wait for your response.

I have uploaded the pictures. They are a bit blurry, but they seem more red and irritated in person.
Brief Answer:
It could be due to allergic reaction to some insect bite.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
I have checked the attached images. Looking at the rash on the back of the neck it seems that it could be due to allergic reaction to some insect bite. I would insist you to give the child cetirizine syrup for a few days. I would also insist you to get a blood count done. I wish to check the total leucocyte count, the eosinophil count and the platelet count. That should give an idea if other causes could be involved.
