Brief Answer:
Should go to the ER

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I am Dr. Meriton. I understand your concern.

Your description is most likely to be an infection or inflammation of the area, which entered the blood stream through a breach in normal tissue. This breach could have happened remotely or, most probably, recently. Maybe your skin was exposed to insect stinging, tick bite or tearing or small lesion in contact with rust or other soily or unhygienic materials. Please, check if you have anything unusual in your skin, more in the distal part (further from heart part) where the red line begins. The probability that this phenomenon is ocurring from the blood clot you have been diagnosed with is low, but not impossible.

However, I recommend you to immediately go to the ER and seek medical attention. Blood tests should be run and proper medication should be installed immediately, to attack the culprit of this phenomenon.

I hope I was helpful with my answer. If you have further questions, feel free to ask, as I would be happy to help.

Best regards,
Dr. Meriton

I went to the beach last Monday and bitten, several times, by sand flys. One of the bites was behind my left leg on or around the calf area or maybe behind the knee. Could this be the culprit behind the line around my leg? My calf still aches on and off.

Brief Answer:
With high probability, yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello, dear! Thank you for the follow-up question.

Yes, it could be from the flies which carried an infectious micro-organism, and the fly is just the vector transmitting it. Go to the ER as soon as possible and, with proper antibiotic therapy, the red line will subside real fast and the results are good. But, it requires treatment as soon as possible.

I hope I was helpful. If you do not have further clarifications, please close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you a good health.
