What Causes Redness Above The Upper Lip?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: it's now 4 weeks since I be noticed the redness above my upper lip. I've been to 3 doctors and have been using hydrocortisone prescription from one doctor. the hydrocortisone helped with swelling and redness but I've been using it for 2 weeks and the initial ailment has not seemed to get much better. not much more has developed but its not clearing up either. it looks better for a few days and then it flares up again. sometimes it burns and feels like pins and needles. other days it doesn't feel like anything is there at all, but I can see it. the skin is slightly raised and it's pink most of the time the rest of my chapped lips seem to be getting better but every so often it feels tingly all over my lips like bubbling. why is this taking so long to clear up

Brief Answer:
Bacterial infection--needs antibiotics to be applied topically !!!

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to the best health portal available globally. I have carefully reviewed your case here at HCM and can well realize the health worries you have. It is a serious cause of medical concerns and needs proper attention.

It seems from symptoms that it is caused by the microscopic abrasions caused by hair removal system and can also aggravate if you unnecessarily bite the lips afterwards. This is actually an inflammation, redness (erythema), change of temperature, edema (swelling) on the localized site in the start. This can be taken over by the bacteria to cause proper, superimposed secondary infection of the skin including hair follicles.

Steroid creams can lessen the symptoms only. It can lower the redness and swelling to some extent but can't heal such lesions.

I have better suggestions for you to take care of the lesions. First of all change the upper lips shaving system to some more sophisticated machine, made up of platinum material (it sharpens the blades with every use and also causes less skin micro-abrasions, leading to least chances of infection).

Apply Ice cubes on the area to lessen the inflammation and redness. Alternate it with some warm sponging. It will heal it up soon.

Clean the skin areas with Saline lukewarm water many times a day.

Apply PROCORT TOPICAL CREAM that is a mixture of a numbing agent and steroid. It heals up fast and gives prompt relief. Keep it applied while sleeping too. Apply twice daily to the area, until you get the symptoms relieved completely.

Apply MUPIROCIN CREAM on the area twice daily. It will help alleviate the infection of skin that is delaying the healing process.

Take plenty of clean drinking water. Vegetables, fruits and salads are best for you.

Can you please spare some time to upload some recent well lit, good resolution and properly focused pictures of the lesion areas... I will review them for better analysis.

Hope it helps. Please ask for more assistance if you need. I am here to help. For future reference simply click on: tinyurl.com/drhanifmd
