What Causes Redness And Chaffing Of The Skin?

Question: I had a brief relationship with a woman about a year ago who was very sexual. The first night we were together, we had a few beers and started making out. In the process, she was rubbing hard against my penis while I was still clothed, which caused damage to the skin on the head of my penis. I have applied moisturizers and even went through a bottle of Man1 Oil which helped a lot, but some redness and chafing of the skin is still there. I am trying to avoid the embarrassment of going to a dermatologist and therefore looking for alternative sources for help. Can you please provide me with some guidance? Also, do you think I have done permanent damage to the skin?

I have gone through your query and seen the picture attached,

Peeling and redness of skin associated with trauma due to friction clear up eventually, and do not last this long.

Dry, scaly and peeling of penile skin is a common problem.
It could be due to several reasons like drying soaps, allergy to some detergents, fungal/bacterial infection, vigorous sexual activity with lack of moisturizing, psoriasis, Lichen sclerosis (a condition where the skin starts to thin), overuse of steroid creams etc.

Confirmation of diagnosis can be done by Physical examination and microscopy of skin scrapings fro the affected area.

Meanwhile, you can continue using Man1 man oil for moisturizing the area. Keep the area clean and dry. Use loose fitting breathable cotton underwear, try changing soap to a milder one and use hypoallergenic unscented laundry detergent. You can also try Lotrimin AF cream (Mild Fungal infections should clear up with the use of this cream)

There is nothing be ashamed of. This is a common problem and please be advised to follow up with a Primary care provider/Dermatologist to undergo further evaluation, if your symptoms do not subside after 1-2 weeks.
