What Causes Redness In Eyes?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 May 2014
Question: I get red right eye whenever I do jogging (1.5/2 KM). I am 45 years old male, having Osteoarthritis in right leg. Doctor advised the drug Milflox DM saying the red eye is occurring from Osteoarthritis. However I can continue jogging/other games. Can I use this drug often (say once in two months)? What are the side effects? Should I stop jogging/running instead?

Brief Answer: Reiter’s syndrome may be ruled out Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writing After going through your query, there is a syndrome (Reiter’s), in this there is a combination of conjunctivitis (red eye), arthritis and urethritis. You may discuss this with your treating doctor. Please tell in the follow up query- Do you have an episode of infection prior to the red eye and joint pain? Do you have burning sensation while passing urine and what is the duration of your suffering? The medicine (miliflox DM) looks to be a combination of antibiotic and steroid, it may be used for 5-7 days at a time, but not for more than a week. The common side effects are -changes in vision, such as blurring and seeing halos around lights, pressure and pain in the eye, drooping of the eyelid. My advice for you would be- 1. Gradually increase the running length and speed preferably on weekly basis, avoid running and jogging on hard concrete surface and to be followed by ice fomentation. 2. Take balanced diet rich in calcium (1000mg/day) and vitamin D (1000 i.u. /day) along with vitaminB12, B6. Hope this information helps you. Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
