What Causes Redness Of The Body Folds Of Groin Area?
Question: For the past 10 years or so, I've had a "sticky" groing/scrotum. A few years back I discovered a product called "Body Glide - Anti Chafe Stick", which comes in a deodorant style stick. I apply this daily after showering. If I forget to apply, in about 20-30 minutes I start getting the "sticky" feeling. Sort of like when you forget to put deodorant and you feel "sticky" arm pids.
Also the sticky sensation (when I don't use BodyGlide), sometimes comes accompanied by a bad smell from my groin area. Sometimes, even when I use BodyGlide I get that bad smell (mostly when using tight groin pants). But the sticky sensation occurs even when I were Dockers Pants or shorts.
Also in few ocations, I've had a lot of itching in the bottom part of my penis (don't know if it's related to the sticky/smelly thing happening). This itch comes and go's.
I've heard that chafing occurs in overweight people or athletes. I'm neither overweight and rarely exercise.

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through you query.
I would keep a possibility of either Intertrigo (inflammation of the body folds) with superimposed candida Or a possibility of a fungal infection. However, I would like to be sure if you can upload a photograph of the region.
-I would also like to know whether do you have any redness/rash in the groins?
-Do you notice any scaling/chafing in that area?
-Do you notice that the odor/sticky feeling is more in hot/humid weather (summers)?
Regards

The stickiness is the same all year (depends mostly if I use or not the body glide)
the smell does get worse in hot climate or also if I use tighter pants. I I use certain "tight" pants, I can feel a "burning" sensation in my testicles (and it feels hot to touch.
Don't have any redness or rash or chafing.
After a days work, if I pass my fingers through my groin, It smells pretty bad. (not sure if that's normal).

Brief Answer:
Try OTC antifungal cream and Dusting powder
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I have reviewed the photographs. You do seem to have an inflammation of the body folds of groins (I can see there is redness in the convexities of the groin folds). The itching on the underside of shaft of penis also seems to be related.
Groin folds or body folds in general, traps sweat, which makes the skin moist; moist skin is delicate and therefore prone to inflammation.
Intertrigo, which is defined as inflammation of the body folds, is due to rubbing of the groin folds against each other during walking.
Sweat that gets trapped is going to be acted upon by bacteria that are normally resident in that area and this may produce smell. Moreover, candidal super-infection of the groin folds may also ensue and this may also be the reason for your complaints
Wearing tights and hot weather would exacerbate the condition further, for obvious reasons.
If I was the treating doctor I would have asked you to use an OTC topical antifungal e.g clotrimazole 1% cream, once daily at night for 2-4 weeks.
Day time use of an antifungal dusting powder (clotrimazole dusting powder) in the groin folds would keep the folds dry/sweat free and would also be inhibitory to candidal growth. I am not sure if it is available OTC in your country. You need to check from a nearby drug store Or else you may ask for a prescription from your primary physician.
Twice daily bathing is advisable and wearing loose fitting clothes would also help.
