What Causes Redness On My Foot And Back Of Toe?
Question: 9 days ago the tip of my 2nd largest toe on my right foot looked red. It was also red on the back of my toe. The skin was sensitive and felt tight from the swelling. The skin on that toe tip also felt thicker. 4 days ago the same thing happened to the middle toe on my left foot. It is itchy and extra swollen whenever I take a shower or if I'm working out. It doesn't hurt but it feels sensative to anything touching it. I can send you a photo if you tell me where to send it.

Hi
I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same.
I have seen the attached pictures .
I would like to know if you are presently staying at a cold place since the pictures are suggestive of either chilblains or an allergic cause .
Did the redness appear all of a sudden ,like overnight or did it appear after an episode of exposure to cold air or water .
I need to know the above details to differentiate between frostbite and insect bite reaction .

I live in NY City in the USA where the temperatures at that time were in the 20 degree range. I had no outdoor exposure. The condition came on very suddenly. First on the right foot and then several days later on the other foot. What would likely cause the allergy that would make this type of reaction?
Brief Answer:
Need to find out the cause
Detailed Answer:
hi again
The most likely cause of such a presentation is an allergic reaction which could have occurred either due to contact with a new pair of socks or a shoe .
Such a skin allergy can also occur due to intake of any oral medicines like antibiotics or pain killers or due to intake of oral allergic agents .
Take some oral antihistamines like Benadryl or levocetrizine along to relieve the associated itching and allergy .
Apply a topical steroid cream like cortisone cream over the affected areas twice daily .
Wear canvas shoes so as to decrease sweating and prevent allergy .
I would advise you to see a nearby doctor soon for confirmation of the diagnosis and further management in case the condition persists in spite of the above management.
