What Causes Redness On Penis, Cracked Foreskin And Burning Sensation While Urinating?

Question: I may be suffering from Thrush. I am diabetic but under control. generally after or during intercourse I develop redness of penis and sometimes I find the foreskin cracked and it burns during urinating. Kindly advice an antifungal cream or could we dwell more on the symptoms pl?

Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.

I have gone through the description.

The symptoms described are manifestations of fungal infection.
I would have advised the following:
Clean the area with warm water twice a day.
Apply antifungal cream like clotrimazole (candid) cream .
Oral antifungal like flucanazole 150 mg weekly once for 4 weeks. It is a prescribed medication.
Good control of diabetes.

Partner also can be treated with anti fungal cream and oral anti fungals.

Avoid intercourse when active lesions/symptoms Or condoms can be used.

The oral medication is to be taken post meals or any particular time? How much time does it need to get cured? Pulling back the foreskin very painful at times. Thanks for your response doctor. Hope to provide you with the positive follow up.

Flucanazole can be taken before or after food.

It may take 2 weeks to subside. Good control of blood glucose (diabetes) is important. It may hamper treatment or cause recurrence.

If the foreskin retraction is painful and difficult, you may need to consult doctor.
It may be due to phimosis. Simple procedure like slitting or circumcision may be required.
