What Causes Redness On Scrotal Area Inspite Of Being On Ritalin For ADD?
The symptoms are: scrotum red, gets very red when he has a bowel movement, a little itchy but not much, a constant tingling feeling. He is going back to the dermatologist tomorrow. I am also going to make him an appointment with my primary care physician. My thinking is that it has nothing to do with the skin. There is some other underlying cause. He is getting very depressed. It bothers him all the time.
Also about 6 weeks ago he was in very severe pain in his scrotum, lower back and stomach. He was at college about an hour away. He called me in the middle of the night but by the time I got there he said the pain was gone. We went to the emergency room and they think he passed a kidney stone. There was a little blood in his urine. They did an ultrasound and said everything looked fine. Did blood work and said it looked fine.
Not sure if that incident is related but he has never had a kidney stone before and it does not run in our family.
Any insight you could provide would be very helpful.
Post clear pictures.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history about your son. Read all the history you have provided very carefully.
Please allow me to put some points before we go for further discussion.
- Is the so called Jock's itch started immediately with the starting of Ritalin?
- Can you post a clear picture of the lesions your son has, a clear picture as the visual impression is the most important thing in proper diagnosis.
You can post attached to this query.
Just to recapitulate important point:
* there is a point in saying
''gets very red when he has a bowel movement'',
this does not occur in regular jock's itch, too rare to believe.
Scrotum is red, a little itchy but not much, a constant tingling feeling.
Also about 6 weeks ago he was in very severe pain in his scrotum, lower back and stomach
I would suggest you the following:
-Post a Picture as already said.
-Clinical evaluation by a General surgeon / Urologist with ultrasonography and color doppler of the scrotal area, just to rule out something rare, which you and me too are thinking.
-Biopsy of the skin is highly recommended in some cases. This helps in the cases where there is difference of opinion.
In addition some very important points:
Remove the cause: The area must be washed with plain water to keep away the sweat and secretions.
- These conditions can never be healed unless the area is kept well ventilated, extreme temperatures are avoided, stop all the ointments at the moment for the real picture to be seen (just for some time).
Once I see the picture we shall continue the discussion and try to get to the diagnosis and the proper treatment.
Awaiting.
