What Causes Reduced Weight Gain In A 9 Month Old Infant?
Ensure 4-5 bowls of complementary feeds with breast feeds
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM
I completely understand your concerns but don't worry. As the requirements and feeding habits change after 6 months of age, so we often see that the weight gain in infants during this period becomes less than in early infancy.
Having a static weight is not acceptable for 3 months. It suggests that there is some lack of nutrition or illness.
Since you have not mentioned about any other illness, it's most likely due to inadequate nutrition.
So, I would recommend you to take the following measures to help her out:
1. Ensure at least 3 big bowls and 2 small bowls of complementary feeds every day along with breast feeds 3-5 times.
2. At this age, infants can try almost all the food items. So, give feeds including:
- cereals- rahi, wheat, rice, oats, maize
- proteins- pulses, soya beans, nuts and dry fruits ( powdered)
- butter, oil to taste
- green veggies
- fruits
- milk products
You may try various recipes to make it relishing for baby.
Give a gap of at least 2-3 hours in between feeds to improve her appetite. Give water in between if she wants.
- You may give Syp. Bevon to improve her appetite.
You may use WHO growth charts to monitor her weight gain with the help of your pediatrician.
Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
