What Causes Reib Pain After An Injury?
Question: I broke my rib in early august jumping on a water trampoline. (about 2 months ago) I then got a pretty significant virus with lots of violent coughing that led to vomiting. The cough and cold are getting better, but the rib pain is getting worse. It got better for awhile and the original site of the pain has subsided completely. But it now hurts MUCH WORSE on the right side at the very bottom of my ribcage. I can pinpoint exactly where it hurts. WHY is it getting worse after all this time and should I return to the doctor?
Brief Answer:
An X ray chest is required.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that probably it is related to the accident you had . As if it is due to broken rib it will not radiate .
Since you gave a history of violent coughing there is a possibility of pleurisy thats a catching pain in the rib area so that the patient can pinpoint secondary to the infection in chest .
I would advise you to get a CXR - PA done and see a doctor early as chest auscultation is important in your case. You can discuss this possibility with your treating doctor . Probably a course of antibiotics will be required .
Take care.

Thank you for your reply.
I had an X-ray early in the diagnoses and have finished two rounds of antibiotics for the cough.
What kind of doctor is best to see for this? I have just been working with the DO that runs the urgent care by my house.

Dear Madam,
Thanks for reverting back.
In my opinion you should see a respiratory specialist .
Sometimes the microorganism is not susceptible to the antibiotics we take and the infection persists but on a low threshold which can lead to pleural thickening or effusion leading to pleuritic pain which may have happened in your case.
