What Causes Restricted Movement And Pain Post Partial Hip Replacement?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: I had a partial hip replacement over four months ago as a result of a cycling accident. I developed bursitis In the same hip a month post op. I had a cortisone injection 6 weeks ago which helped for about 3 weeks. I still do my post op PT exercises daily, take Celebrex and use ice. My surgeon said I don't need to reduce my activity and encouraged cycling and walking. This was making it worse (as does sitting) so now I'm using a cane, and restricting activities with minimal improvement. Do you think anything else would help?

Brief Answer:
Hot compress can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
After a partial hip replacement usually the recovery is good and patient returns to full activity.
The restriction of activity that you have now is due to the inflammation of the bursa. This can improve after taking anti inflammatory pain killers. Doing a hot compress will help you better than a cold compress.
In case the pain and stiffness is severe then you can get a repeat cortisone shot in the hip for relief.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
