What Causes Ridges On Face Post Shingles Recovery?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Nov 2015
Question: My wife suffered with shingles in her face last April I year and a half ago. She also quit smoking at the same time. Recently she started developing these ridges in her face, on the same side where the shingles were. These ridges only appear in the morning. They fade as the day continues. I have attached pictures. Is a neurologist the right person for us to see?

Brief Answer:
Yes, she should consult a neurologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
I have gone though the photographs you have uploaded.
Shingles can lead to muscle weakness and damage of the nerve fibers of the affected area.
These facial ridges she is developing are likely due to these causes.
However, the diagnosis needs to be confirmed by proper examination by a neurologist and appropriate investigations like electromyography etc.
I will suggest you to consult a neurologist for proper evaluation and treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful. Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
