Question: Hi Female 49 yrs old. I have been having back issues since 1-2-16 Wednesday I was in the ER got a shot
of dilaudid??? same day started taking a MethyIprednisolone pack 4mg. That evening started having
numbness in right buttocks that has since spread to vaginal area. now vaginal folds as well as area around
rectum is swollen the area around the folds are hard. able to urinate but not much success in bowel movement. Do you think it is from the meds or is something else going on.

Brief Answer:
Please present to an ER immediately.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM: Please note that you need an MRI, did you hurt/injure your back? Did you fall? How long have you not had a bowel movement. This is something else going on. I believe that you are beginning to get nerve root compromise and or damage, the numbness that is spreading despite being on methylprednisolone is concerning. Good luck and take care.

I lifted something on 1-2-16 the pain was around L4-L5 at first (bulge in this area)
At start of this week pain started to get lower into the tail bone area and around
to front of hips. Saw my Dr. on Tuesday was given the methylprednisolone.
Then on Wednesday 1-20-16 pain was off the chart. went to ER was given the
shot. That's when the numbness, swelling and no bowel movement started.
MRI scheduled for next Tuesday and epidural Wednesday. Concerned most
about the swelling and hardness in the vaginal and rectum area. Is this a reaction
to any of the meds?

Brief Answer:
I doubt it is a reaction to the medications
Detailed Answer:
If anything the methylprednisolone would combat most reactions to medications, and it should stop this pain and numbness, so yes you were treated right, but I am afraid without an MRI to tell us what is going on, you may develop what we call cauda equina syndrome, this can be very debilitating, in fact if you told me that you cannot urinate, that would become a neurosurgical emergency.
