What Causes Right-sided Abdominal Pain?

Usual causes for pain on right side above waist are below
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
Thanks for writing in to us.
On the right side of abdomen, there is the liver and gall bladder in the upper abdomen and below which there is the right kidney. The right ureter connects the kidney to the urinary bladder and runs down along the right side of abdomen.
In the right lower abdomen we have the caecum and appendix and the ureter running through the area. Apart from this there is fat surrounding the above structures with few lymph nodes.
Therefore a pain on the right side above the waist usually can be from conditions of the caecum, appendix, right kidney and ureter. There are other conditions like enlarged lymph nodes and conditions involving the fat in the area which can cause pain.
Rarely referred pain from the gall bladder can be felt above the waist annd also the pelvic organs need to be assessed in women.
So there can be a cause in the right kidney and ureter for a pain on the right side above the waist but other conditions also need to be looked for.
Regards,
