What Causes Right Sided Body Pain Occurring With Movements?

Posted on Mon, 5 May 2014
Question: I am a 42 yr old female- just yesterday I started feeling very achy on my right side- today, it was very painful to move, cough and drink- the pain is under my right breast and right shoulder and it feels like it is a broken rib (I used to play lots of sports and have broken ribs before so the symptoms feel the same to me)- however, I have not been playing sports so this is very unusual to me- is there anything else I should look for? When feeling my ribs on the right side, they are so sensitive, and I can feel that is where the pain is coming from. Please advise-

Brief Answer: Seems to be muscle strain. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for writing to us. The fact that your pain is occurring with movements indicates a muscle strain. Any strained muscle when stretched gives severe pain. I advice you to follow the below mentioned guidelines - * Give adequate rest to the involved muscle group and avoid any movement that causes pain * Ice packing once in every 2 hours over the affected area * Moist heat application to relax the muscles * Local application of muscle relaxant gel * Analgesic medications as needed Hope this helps you.
