What Causes Right-sided Lower Abdominal Pain While Treating Diverticulitis?
Feeling much better now but how can I prevent diverticulitis from happening in the future? I don't want to have another colectomy. Could something other than diverticulosis be causing flare ups? My last CT scan showed total resolution of diverticulitis
As discussed
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank for your query and a re-question.
Taken the reference of the old discussion too.
Noted that you are still kept on Keflex, Flagyl and Percocet as required.
Flagyl may be stopped after 5 to 7 days of a course, if resolution occurred.
Percocet is better avoided (if there is not much of pain) as it may cause constipation.
Read about the recent CT scan showing mesenteric shredding after three weeks of diverticulitis which can be post and the lower right abdominal pain is not getting better. but then you have mentioned that feeling much better now.
Please post the report of CT scan if possible.
This is the anxiety that you are feeling that your will never feel well again.
We have already discussed about the avoidance of flare ups in the last discussion.
To review the precautions:
Avoid constipation.
Avoid the junk foods.
Make a list of the foods and beverages that suit you perfectly and avoid everything else.
Plenty of oral fluids.
Timely foods and great slumber sleep.
If the infection develops anywhere else, get timely proper treatment.
Take all the precautions and you will be fine.
Diverticulosis means presence of diverticuli is an incidental finding in many cases and they never develop diverticulitis.
Since your last CT scan showed total resolution of diverticulitis and you are under right treatment so do not worry.
If there are no further flareups, there is no need of colectomy.
Other than diverticulitis, there are many more conditions that can cause right sided pain, a long list that we should not worry at the moment.
