What Causes Right-sided Pain In The Back When Diagnosed With Lewy Body Disease?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jan 2017
Question: My kidney profile has been abnormal the past 2 times it has been checked, My Mother had kidney cancer, fully contained in the right kidney, had a nephrectomy and she was fine from the cancer but the surgery aggravated her Parkinsons which was later diagnosed as Lewy Body disease. My doctor says cancer would not affect the profile but I am concerned about it. My right back area has been hurting for 6 months but I thought it was our mattress but we changed it out and it is still hurting and getting progressively worse. It hurts when I change positions from sitting to standing or vice versa, it hurts constantly now

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam, Hi & Welcome.
Thanks for approaching HCM for your concerns.
I have gone through your history diligently.

Based on the history you have a strong family history of kidney cancer and you seem to have abnormal kidney profile in the recent past so, in view of this I would advise you to consult a urologist for further evaluation.
You may need to undergo certain tests such as kidney function tests, urine analysis, abdominal ultrasound, and may be CT scan to detect any possible cause.

Hope this answers your query.
However, if you have any follow up query, please feel free to ask.
Best regards.

My creatinine level was elevated, the eGFR level was 51 and I have never had any issues prior, never had a kidney infection and only 1 bladder infection in my entire life. What would cause this to happen all of a sudden? My doctor had prescribed Qysmia...would that affect my kidney function?

Dear Madam, Hi & Welcome back.
Thanks for your reply, noted its contents.

Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) is used to screen for and detect early kidney damage, to help diagnose chronic kidney disease, and to monitor kidney status.

According to the National Kidney Foundation, a normal eGFR for adults should be more than 90 mL/min/.

An eGFR below 60 mL/min suggests that some kidney damage has occurred. The test may be repeated to see if the abnormal result persists. Chronic kidney disease is diagnosed when a person has an eGFR less than 60 mL/min/1.73 for more than three months.

Qysmia (phentermine and topiramate) is used together with diet and exercise to treat obesity. It most side effects include constipation, insomnia, dry mouth, sore throat, paresthesia, mood disorder, and sleep disturbances.

It may also increase serum creatinine.

So, in view of the above you are advised to consult a nephrologist for further evaluation which may include some additional tests such as abdominal ultrasound, urine analysis and CT scan.

Hope this will help in detecting the possible cause and its treatment accordingly.

Regards.
