What Causes Right Upper Abdominal Pain, Blood And Mucus In Stool?

Question: Hi I have had numerous issues with right upper abdominal pain and troubles finishing when doing poos. I go to the toilet and just don't feel like I have finished properly and need to go again in half hour. I have now for the last few months had intermittent red blood and mucus on my stool. I have been on a waiting list for a colonoscopy for 8 months and doesn't look like I will get it for another 2 months. I have had my stools analized for ulcerative colitis and chrones disease which were negative. I have had an abdominal ultrasound, ct scan and bloods and all normal. I don't know what to do?
I also have a lot of issues with irritation around the opening of my bum.

Brief Answer:
Discuss with your physician to run stool culture
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
I am sorry for the situation you are in.
Having blood and mucus in feces is indicative for possible:
- IBD (inflammatory bowel disease)
- bowel infection
Apart stool analysis, colonoscopy is the gold standard diagnostic test for IBD and biopsy. Furthermore, stool culture is also recommended to exclude infectious bowel disease and fungal infection. You can discuss it further with your physician.
For the moment, I advise to:
- keep good hygiene of your genitalia and anal area
- take probiotics to normalize intestinal flora
- drink clean water to avoid infections
- avoid anal sex
Hope it was of help!
