What Causes Ringing In Ears?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: For approximately 2 months I have had a extreme ringing in my ears. In the past two weeks it has become more prevalent and I can't hear out of my left ear. I would say the hearing loss has decreased by 90%. My hearing is so bad, if I'm not looking at the person talking, I have no idea they are talking to me. I have now been told my speech is becoming abnormal as well. Of course, I didn't know that because I can't hear myself. I have been very dizzy and lightheaded, but my blood pressure is normally high (I take toprol for that) but now for some reason in the last two weeks my BP has dropped in the 80's for the top number and 60's for the low number. I contributed my dizziness and being unstable to the BP. I do not have any pain in my left ear that would leave me to believe it's an ear infection. Any ideas and/or suggestions? Every day this intensifies and I'm hearing less and less. I'm now getting a little worried. Thank you in advance for you help.
Brief Answer:
Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
I have gone through your query, medical history and medication ; it suggests that most probably you may be suffering from the sudden hearing loss. Your two condition i.e. speech becoming abnormal and high BP indicates that your cause may be central in origin.
But to reach the near diagnosis you may go for
1. Pure tone audiometry .
2. Impedance Audiometry.
3. CT scan Head / MRI Brain.
4. Palatal and laryngeal examination.
5. Vestibular battery test.
These all tests are necessary for better management and to reach the near diagnosis.
