What Causes Salty Taste In The Mouth While On IBU?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Mar 2019
Question: I have a very strong flavor of salt in my mouth, with thick saliva. I am taking Ibu (tw0 200mg tabs) about 4 times daily for pain related to my bone cancer. I have problems with a build up in my esophagus if I eat other than very slowly. a recent endoscopy shows no swelling or physical blockage at the resection of the junction of esophagus and stomach done in 2011. CT scan shows no anomaly. full body bone scan shows no new masses other than my left shoulder, which is th source of current pain. -any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Rule out sinus infection and tooth/gum infection.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Salty taste can occur due to infection of sinuses, tooth or gums. Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider and dentist to rule out such infections.

Also, always make sure that you stay hydrated. Sometimes GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease), where stomach acid reflux back into the esophagus can cause a salty taste. Please discuss with your physician who did the recent endoscopy, regarding whether any signs of GERD had shown up on endoscopy.

As you can see there are several possible causes that can cause salty taste in mouth and I cannot give a definite answer without evaluating you. So please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider and dentist.

Hope this answers your question.
