What Causes Sarcoidosis While Treating Breast Cancer?

default
Posted on Thu, 1 Dec 2016
Question: I was dx with an undifferentiated autoimmune disorder with + lupus marker in 2006. Was put on Plaquenil and intermittent low dose prednisone. Dx and surg for HER + breast cancer 2014. Severe Sepsis one month after surgery related to injecting both expanders with same needle. Staph infection (not MRSA). Finished chemo Herceptin and taxotere in Dec 2015. Had allergic rx to Taxol on second dose. In mid Dec 2015 finished chemo and started Arimidex. Dec 30 dx with sarcoidosis. Could any of these episodes have caused the sarcoid which is unresponsive to Prednisone and now Methotrexate. Also I have been dx with Hashimoto"s disease this month. US of thyroid negative. my TPO= 293. Is all of this a coincidence or is this a cascading effect of any of the above issues. Also had Rhabdomyosarcoma and wicked chemo as a kid.

Brief Answer:
Autoimmune disorders can be associated

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

It seems you have a predisposition for autoimmune disorders. Since 2006 you have three of them diagnosed. Autoimmune disorders tend to be associated with each other and anybody with one has got higher risk of developing one another. But probably there is no cascading effect.

The breast cancer seems unrelated. Taxol allergy is quite common and doesn't signify anything. Fortunately the breast cancer is under control.

Hope this helps. I will be available for follow-up.
Regards
