Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.
There is no doubt about strong family history of
schizophrenia in your family and this may be due to underline genetic factor. May be through your son, these genes have transferred into your grandsons. Usually, it have been seen that, schizophrenic patients have some childhood psychiatric disorder, which could lead to defective mental balance and further lead to schizophrenia in later life.
Your eight years old grandson has typical symptoms of schizophrenia like
auditory hallucination, visual hallucination, paranoid delusion etc. In that case, he needs continuous treatment of antiopsychotic. There is no need to give lexpro,
amphetamine and
trazodone in his case. His ADHD and schizophrenia both could improve with
risperdal.
Now, chances of getting schizophrenia increases with number of person with illness in family. In your grandson, chances of getting schizophrenia is more than 50%. You can try genes analysis to confirm the genes related to illness, but ultimate treatment is medications. So, you can start
antipsychotic in his case as a precautionary purpose. Rest, you can discuss with his
psychiatrist.
In case, you need further help, you can ask.
