What Causes Seeing Black Spots In Vision?
My name is XXXXXX and I am 59 years old. Recently I have been getting black spots that look like small insects moving across my field of vision. They usually move across from left to right or from top to bottom. They are more prevalent when tired. What are they?
These symptoms indicate floaters.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.
I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.
I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you are having symptoms of seeing black spots moving across the field of vision.
These symptoms indicate floaters.
The most common cause for floaters are age related degenerations involving the vitreous, a gel like tissue which is present in the posterior part of the eye behind the lens.
Most of these follow posterior vitreous detachment.
Treatment is generally not required as the symptoms becomes less with time.
However rarely these symptoms can be associated with retinal tear, retinal degeneration which can predispose to retinal detachment. When present these needs to be treated by prophylactic laser treatment.
Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for examination of the posterior segment of the eye to confirm the diagnosis and to rule out retinal conditions which can associated with this rarely.
Hope this is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.
Thank you
