3 hours after birth she had what they thought was a seizure.. took her to a special hospital where she is hooked up to many machines amd there is a mask covering her face.. my friend has epilepsy amd heart problems and the father of the baby is mentally chalenged as well.. she got stuck under the pelvic bone but other than that, the delivery was normal.. my friend had gestational diabetes during the pregnancy and they took the baby a little early because of her size.. my question is can this indicate a brain injury??
Possibility of brain injury is there
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Seizure in pregnancy/after delivery can be due to many causes.
Electrolyte imbalance, cortical venous thrombosis, uncontrolled high blood pressure, stroke can be the cause.
The chances of seizure increases during pregnancy in patients with epilepsy.
Brain MRI and other thorough investigations will clear the situation.
The management is the initiation of antiepileptic drugs in the first place.
Brain injury can be there too in this scenario which you've described.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
